Utilizing Advanced Features

Using Advanced Features

Turnitin implements several features which students may have to interact with during their course. Due to the volume of information presented by Turnitin, we will provide general descriptions of the features available for use by students, and link to the corresponding Turnitin official tutorials for each feature.

If your students have any questions regarding the use of these features, please give them the following link: https://help.turnitin.com/feedback-studio/canvas/lti/student/student-category.htm Links to an external site.

For any specific problems, please read below for the student-accessible advanced Turnitin features.

The Similarity Report:

Turnitin does not check for plagiarism in a piece of work. Instead, they will check a student's work against their database, and if there are instances where a student's writing is similar to, or matches against, one of their sources, they will flag this for you to review. The database includes billions of web pages: both current and archived content from the internet, a repository of works students have submitted to Turnitin in the past, and a collection of documents, which comprises thousands of periodicals, journals, and publication.

Paper Feedback:

Turnitin utilizies many different types of comments, score cards, and other sources of editing to provide a grade and feedback for students. Because there are many different subjects that fall under this category, it is suggested that both Students and Instructors utilize the following link for the student experience in Paper Feedback: https://help.turnitin.com/feedback-studio/canvas/lti/student/student-category.htm#Paperfeedback Links to an external site.

Peer Review:

PeerMark assignments allow you to read, review, and score or evaluate one or many papers submitted by your peers. Peer feedback is available immediately. The PeerMark assignment may be anonymous or attributed, depending on the classroom structure determined by the instructor.
