Milestone 1 Goals: Pre-production
- Due Jan 30, 2019 by 11:30am
- Points 1
- Submitting a text entry box or a file upload
*Work with your group to come up with an even distribution of tasks for this milestone that will help you finish the project to your satisfaction on time.
Example of Roles:
-Director: Overview of the whole process, and making final decisions after discussing with group members and receiving their comments and ideas.
-Art Director(AD): Checks the quality of completed tasks , checks works of group members at early stages as well as final stages to make sure the style is consistent among different assets. Keeps track of the style and color palettes to match the color script, concepts, character designs, etc.
-Project Manager(PM): Keeps track of delivering tasks that need to be done by each group member. Posts tasks on Trello
Links to an external site. and makes sure deadlines are met and communicates the progress of each task to the director.
-Technical Director(TD): Reviews and approves the technical side of tasks completed by group members. For example 3D model checklist: geometry, scene management. 2D animation examples: layering system is done correctly, etc.
In small groups, more than one task can be done by one person, for example Director, and AD may be assigned to one person. However, this division of roles helps with keeping track of the whole process at each stage.
This is a collaborative task, each person in the group should be able to work on areas of interest, but everyone should be willing to do work that is not their 1st choice for the benefit of the project.
Milestone tasks are a way to help ensure balance in the project & that everything gets done - they are not a road map to an A. Completing your tasks does not guarantee an A. You will be evaluated on the amount of time and energy you commit to the project as well as the quality of your work.
Example of General Goals for Milestone 1:
-Story work & 2D animatic revisions
-Inspiration and reference gathering for the style, characters, world
-Inspiration and reference gathering for assets (such as 3D meshes, scene props, etc)
-Concept art, color palettes, color scripts
-Character development, background, questionnaire
-Character development, character sheet, coloring,
-Character model meshes
-Layout and background
-Music with the right mood/feel added to the animatic
-Some atmosphere & foley sounds recorded/collected
More than one person can be working toward a goal in some cases (reference gathering, concept work, modeling characters, etc), but each person should have specific tasks written out. i.e. gather reference for environment, model a rock, etc.
Since nearly everything is scalable, make sure you include the amount of time that is planned for each task. You don't need to always aim to get things done as quickly as possible, but having a set amount of time for each task will help you prioritize the most important elements and not spin your wheels on unimportant elements. Tasks for this milestone should add up to at least the 18 hours expected from a studio course (9 hours per week).
All members should be involved in coming up with the tasks for the milestone. Provide me with a written list of tasks each team member will be doing for the milestone.
This should be formatted as follows:
Bob: Director- Overall hours: 17
-complete character mesh (10 hours)
-meetings (1 hour)
.
.
.
Pat: Project Manager-Overall hours: 17
-do concept drawings for bunker (4 hours)
-collect/record ambient sounds (5 hours)
-layout animation (4 hours)
-meetings (1 hour)
.
.
.
Submission:
-Only one member of each team should submit this assignment for the whole group.
Make sure you keep a record of your tasks and works you do for this milestone in writing, images, screen captures, etc. Part of the Milestone 1 submission is a report of your contribution.
