Once you have open Qualtrics, your session normally begins on the Projects page. The Projects page will list all your created projects and any that are shared with you. For more information go to Projects Basic Overview.

The following information will go over the basic editing features of existing projects and surveys.

The survey will have options for editing and publishing. Click each tab below for more information.

Adding Your Own Questions

Once you have your survey open, you can add additional questions by clicking on one of the two options in the center of the screen:

1.) Create new question automatically loads a new question:

2.) You can also click the green circle to the right of any current question to add a blank question either before or after the highlighted question:

Deleting Questions

To remove a question, hover over the section containing the question to be removed. Once the question is highlighted, a red circle will appear on the right (between two green circles). Click on the red button to delete that question:

Editing Questions

By clicking in the “Click to write the question text” you can change your question.

You can edit the way questions are answered in the right pane of the questions section by clicking the drop down arrow:

Multiple Choice drop-down menu. Next to this label is an arrow that you can click on to view the drop-down menu. There is a yellow arrow pointing to this section.

This allows you to choose from Static Content, Standard Questions, Specialty Questions, Advanced, or Replace From Library.

(Note: each option allows you to force a response from the participants before advancing to the next question, and to choose a validation type).

Static Content allows you to ask open ended questions and/or insert a graphic.

Standard Questions allow you to choose from:
- Multiple Choice → you can edit the number of choices, choose single answer or multiple answer solutions, and change the position of the answers.
- Text Entry → you can edit the number of lines available for the response via the respondents typed answer, create a maximum or minimum answer based on length or range, or choose no limitations.
- Rank Order → makes answers available in the form of a ranking system. You can edit the number of questions, and select the format of the response (i.e., drag and drop, radio buttons, text box, or select box).
- Matrix Table → you an select the type of matrix for responses (i.e., Likert scale, bipolar, rank order, constant sum, text entry, profile, or MaxDiff). You can also select how many answers are allowed to be labeled as correct, insert a drop down list for the answers, or drag and drop. You can also format the question/answer to be mobile friendly, and how to position the information presented to the participant.
- Slider → edit the number of choices/labels, format the answer to bars, sliders, or stars, insert and edit grid lines, and select the maximum value of a numbered response (with or without decimals).
- Side by Side → allows you to edit the number of statements and columns, and repeat the headers.

Specialty Questions allow you to insert special questions that are not different forms of multiple choice or scaled answers.
- Constant Sum → allows you to have participants enter a numerical value for each statement or question. For instance, assigning a percentage value for each that equals 100 percent.
- Hot Spot → allows you to assign different areas of a graphic for respondents to click on response.
  For example:
- Graphic Slider → allows for a slider bar for the response to the question. Change the position of the text, the slider bar, the category, and the gauges.
  For example:
- Net Promoter Score → allows you to pose a question as to how likely the respondent is to recommend XYZ (such as: a product, the survey, or an experience).
- Signature → allows the respondent to sign with their mouse (Note: you can test sign in the preview section, but not while creating the survey).
  For example:
- Pick, Group, and Rank → allows you to group answers by dragging and dropping.
- Heat Map → allows you to insert a graphic and have respondents select the area of the question.
  For example:
- Drill Down → allows you to have drop down responses to specific questions.

- Highlight → allows you to have the respondent highlight answers.

Importing Questions

There are multiple ways to create questions in your Qualtrics survey. One way is to "Import Questions From" as opposed to creating your own questions.

For each of the 4 types of surveys there will be an option to import questions, either before the survey is created, or inside the survey, at the bottom of the page. Below you will find a brief overview.

By clicking on the “Import Questions From” new window opens allowing you to select questions from the Qualtrics Library:

- Selecting Qualtrics Library navigates to the next page:

- Survey Library: allows you to select a category:

- - For example, if you select Demographics you will have another set of options:
  - If you select Demographics again you will be given a list of previously saved questions:

- - Clicking on a question to the left gives you a preview of the questions on the right. Once you have selected the question you want, click on the green Import 1 question.
  - Once you select to import you will be taken back to your survey.

Instead of the Survey Library examples above, you can also choose to select Block Library to import questions. The format and instructions are the same, however the types of questions will differ depending on the type of survey you are creating.

Note: If you wish to select more than one question, clicking on those questions on the right plane will highlight them in blue. All of the blue questions will be imported. This will change the number showing in the green Import # Question box on the lower right pane.

Survey Preview

Click on the Blue Preview button on the upper right of the screen to see how the survey will look to those participating:
From this pane you will be able to see how the survey appears on a computer screen (on the left) and on a smartphone (on the right).

Once you are finished with your preview you can click on the blue Close Preview button on the upper-left.

Note: You can preview and edit as many times as needed before publishing the survey.

Survey Publishing

When you are ready to Publish the survey click on the green Publish button on the upper-right:

A new window will load allowing you to Improve Your Survey or to simply Publish:

Improve your survey takes you to a new window that shows suggestions to make your survey better.

If you select Publish you will have a new window that allows you to copy the link to your survey. You will need this link to send to participants you have selected for this survey, or to anyone else who needs to take or review it:
